Selling Rare Wrestling Autographs from 1980-1990

If a recent early fall cleaning of your home leads you to a collection of rare wrestling autographs from 1980-1990, you are in luck. Fortunately, sports memorabilia, including wrestling collectibles and signed photos, are a hot commodity and they can go for quite the money too.

One of the most important things about the autographs that you found is whether they are authentic or if they are fakes. Unfortunately, fakes look real, and they trick many people. There are many fakes circulating out in the market and the only way to know if you have an original or not is to have the autograph authenticated. While this can be expensive to do, it will ensure that you get what your item is worth.

In addition to authentication, what exactly makes an autograph rare? Let’s check it out.

Rare Wrestling Autographs

A rare autograph is one that is not likely to happen again or one that is not commonly found, even though there may be a couple out there.

  1. Who is the item signed by?

Anyone can sign a photograph of themselves but what makes it rare is whether the person was famous, what they were famous for, and whether or not they are still alive currently. Someone who has passed away is no longer able to sign a photo, so their autograph would be more valuable than someone who is still alive.

  1. What was used to sign the photo?

A pencil is the least valuable of the items used to sign an autograph. Pen, sharpie, or the like is the best and the most valuable.

  1. How many exist?

The key here - was it a mass-produced autograph? When an autographed photo is limited to a single one or just a handful, it is naturally more valuable than a mass-produced signed photo.

  1. What is signed?

The value of what you have will depend on what is autographed too. For example, photos hold more value than a piece of paper or a random object that is signed. The type of item that is autographed will directly influence its value.

  1. Will the event happen again?

This is another factor that is considered in determining the value of your autograph. What is the location or match, and will it happen again? Was it historic? For instance, who was in the match? Was it a pay-per-view event? Was the match between rivals? This matters!

  1. What condition is the item and signature in?

The condition of the item and the autograph is important. An item that is in good or excellent condition is worth more than an item where the autograph is faded or hard to read.
